For the most part, I am drawn to the classic appeal of black and white images, which is how I shoot most weddings. Every now and then, however, there is an occasion which demands to be shown in color. A recent wedding in Crown Heights, Brooklyn was one such occasion. One look at the photo above and you can see why - the bride’s stunning red hair simply couldn’t be ignored.
She wasn’t the only one. In addition to the bride, many members of her family had flame red hair, and it made for great spots of color among the men’s dark suits during the ceremony. That, combined with the general atmosphere of fun and goodwill that emanated from both the bride and groom made this an especially enjoyable (and colorful) day.
Reportage photography and wedding photojournalism always takes into account the particular style and personalities of the people involved and ideally these are reflected in every image. In this case, color was an essential and intrinsic part of the day.
