A December Wedding in NYC

I often get asked “when is the best time to get married in NYC?” My answer is usually, “Whenever you want to. There is beauty in all seasons.” And that’s 100% true. For myself, I would never get married in summer, because that’s not my favorite season. But I’ve shot weddings in August where the couple revels in the heat and there’s not a bead of perspiration in sight. And for a documentary wedding photographer, it really doesn’t matter. Since we’re not about the posed shots or elaborate setups, we’ll happily shoot anytime, anywhere.

Tatyana and Will’s wedding was just before Christmas and their reception was in the NY Botanical Gardens. It was a cold day, and it was perfect. They leaned in to the Christmas theme and used the colors and obvious decor of the season, and their wedding was infused with the joy and wonder that is a hallmark of the Christmas season. Even their impromptu first dance practice, outside under the twinkly lights on the patio of the NYBG Stone Mill had the air of Christmas magic about it.

My advice for any couple is to have a wedding that is a true reflection of their personalities. Find a wedding photographer that understands that and doesn’t try to manufacture scenarios that aren’t genuine for you. And then relax and enjoy, in any season.
