Tweedy & Holly:The last wedding BC (Before Covid)

It feels like another age, but it was only February of 2020 when Tweedy and Holly got married at NYC’s Marriage Bureau, aka City Hall. Looking back at these images fills me with a kind of bittersweet joy, because although we’d already heard of the dangers of the pandemic, none of us knew how close we were to a very new and different world.

On this day, the 7th of February 2020, we were joyfully gathering in crowded spaces - on the street, at the Marriage Bureau, on the subway and at Haven’s Kitchen in Chelsea for the reception - to celebrate this amazing couple. In a way it’s fitting that their wedding was my last before the shutdown, because it epitomized everything I love about documentary style shooting: it was creative and intimate (even in the aforementioned crowded spaces). Tweedy and Holly gave every guest a well-loved and well-worn book as a token of their appreciation, and the custom bookmarks they included were embossed with this beautiful quote from George Eliot. “What greater thing is there for two human souls than to feel they are joined for life?”

I’m honored to have been a part of this day in which these two very special souls pledged to be joined for life.
