Newborn Photography in NYC

Preserving the candid, tender moments with your baby.

Newborn photography is about capturing the quiet beauty of those first days with your baby. It can be the fingers curled around yours or the softest expressions of peace while they sleep. These are the natural, simplest details that tell the story of your
growing family.

I focus on real, unscripted moments, photographing your baby as they are, in the comfort of your arms or the warmth of your home. These images become a timeless reminder of how it felt to welcome your child into the world.

My Approach
to Documentary-Style
Newborn Photography

Documentary-style newborn photography tells your family’s story just as it unfolds. With years of experience behind the camera, I’ve learned to notice the quiet, fleeting details—the way your baby stretches in their sleep, the soft expressions that come without warning, and the tender moments you share together. My role is to move gently in the background, creating a calm space while I capture what’s already there.

Your photos should feel like these first days with your baby: completely natural, unposed, and deeply personal. Parents often share that the experience feels very calm and grounding, giving them the chance to slow down and simply be with their newborn.

By photographing only a select number of families each year, I give each session the care and attention it deserves.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • As a documentary newborn photographer, I focus on capturing life as it truly happens, without staging any moments. Your baby’s earliest days are already filled with such tender, quiet details; they don’t need to be created, because they already exist. My role is to notice them and preserve them just as they unfold.

  • Yes. While documentary photography is my speciality, I will of course take some group family shots, typically spending no more than 5 to 10 minutes on them.

  • You don’t need to worry about posing or performing during newborn sessions. My role is to gently capture the natural moments that happen between you and your baby, rather than asking you to do anything staged. I’ll guide you only when it helps—like suggesting the best spot for light—but otherwise I let your family’s rhythm lead the session. The goal is for you to relax, enjoy being together, and forget the camera is even there.

  • Your wedding day doesn’t need direction; it only needs someone who sees it. My role is to capture the unscripted moments as they are happening rather than imposing any ideas. As a result, I don’t give any direction. I document your wedding as it truly happens. You shouldn’t feel that your wedding is a performance. My wish is that you spend as little time thinking about photos as possible, and all of your time simply enjoying the day together.

  • Yes. Even though I'm based in New York City, I’ll travel anywhere across New York and in the United States for newborn photography.

  • The best way is to contact me with your preferred date and location so that I can check my availability. After that, we can meet either via phone, video chat, or in person to discuss the details. I require a $200 non-refundable deposit in order to hold the date. The remainder of the balance will be due no later than 1 month prior to the session. If you are working with a shortened time frame (less than one month before the session), full payment is due upon booking.

  • This can vary, but typically it takes 4 to 6 weeks for me to edit your images and provide you with them. This timeframe allows me to dedicate the time your photos deserve to create a gallery of truly lasting memories. Once complete, you'll be sent a link to your online gallery.

  • Yes, I am fully insured with both professional indemnity and public liability insurance. I can provide a certificate of insurance if needed.

  • The best time to photograph your newborn baby is usually within the first two weeks after birth, when they are sleepiest. Booking early gives you the chance to secure a spot on my calendar around your due date.

  • Newborn sessions typically last between two and four hours. This gives us plenty of time for feeding breaks, soothing, and capturing both quiet and playful moments without feeling rushed.

  • I offer in-home sessions throughout New York City and the surrounding areas, so you can relax in the comfort of your own space. This also helps create candid images that reflect your everyday life as a new family.

  • Many clients have their babies wear simple clothing, such as soft swaddles or neutral onesies. Of course, it's completely up to you and what feels most natural.

  • Absolutely. Including parents and siblings turns the experience into candid family photography, capturing the love and connection between everyone.

  • This is completely normal. I move at your baby's pace and capture those real, natural moments, whether they are awake, being soothed, or drifting off to sleep. Often, those unscripted images become the favorites.

  • There's not much you need to do, since I believe natural light and a comfortable space is plenty. I'm always happy to answer any questions you might have before and during the photography session.
