City Hall Wedding Photographer in NYC
Capturing the genuine, authentic moments of your wedding day.
A city hall wedding is more than a quick ceremony — it’s a meaningful, joyful beginning. Whether you're eloping with two witnesses or celebrating with your closest circle, I’m here to photograph every unposed, unforgettable moment. No matter where they happen, from the Manhattan Marriage Bureau on Worth Street, the Brooklyn City Hall, or the City Hall in Albany, NY, these low-stress, intimate weddings are always among my favorites to photograph. If you’re thinking of getting married at any city hall and would like to discuss your plans for the day, please contact me and I'd love to speak with you.
City hall weddings have so many beautiful aspects to them with a unique atmosphere. They're an incredible blend of a municipal setting combined with the formal intimacy of a small wedding. Documentary-style wedding photography tells your story exactly as it unfolds, from moment to moment.I got married at City Hall in Manhattan and therefore these weddings hold a special place in my heart. My role as your documentary-style photographer is to blend into the background with a calm prescense, letting your celebration flow naturally while I capture it.The couples I work with often tell me that they don’t like posing for photos or dislike having their picture taken (if that sounds familiar, you’ve come to the right place). After the wedding, those same couples tell me how comfortable they and their family members felt around me, and how they never thought they’d love photos of themselves, but they love their wedding photos. I can’t think of a greater compliment than that. City Hall + Documentary Photos = My Passion (Obsession?). If you feel the same, I’d love to hear from you!

Frequently Asked Questions
-
A true documentary wedding photographer stays present in the moment, never staging or directing to “create” something that isn’t there. Your wedding photographs should reflect your day exactly as it was lived—unscripted, joyful, and full of real connection. I bring a steady, supportive presence, observing and capturing the genuine emotions as they unfold.
-
You and your partner have your own unique story, and the images that often hold the most meaning aren’t the posed portraits but the candid shots captured in between. Documentary wedding photography is special because it focuses on preserving the genuine flow of your day. Each moment is authentically captured, from the peaceful exchange of vows to the two of you stepping out of the city hall's doors and everything in between.
-
No. In addition to city hall weddings, I love photographing all types of weddings using documentary style-photography. If you're interested in learning more, please feel free to contact me. I'm happy to answer any questions.

While documentary wedding photography is my speciality and passion, I will of course take some group shots (including of the wedding party when applicable), typically spending no more than 15-20 minutes on them.

Your wedding day doesn’t need direction; it only needs someone who sees it. My role is to capture the unscripted moments as they are happening rather than imposing any ideas. As a result, I don’t give any direction. I document your wedding as it truly happens. You shouldn’t feel that your wedding is a performance. My wish is that you spend as little time thinking about photos as possible, and all of your time simply enjoying the day together.
-
Absolutely. Even though I'm based in New York as a New York wedding photographer, I’ll travel anywhere in the United States. I can shoot destination weddings outside the country as well.
-
The best way is to contact me with your wedding date and location so that I can check my availability. After that, we can meet either via phone, video chat, or in person to discuss details and get to know one another. I require a $200 non-refundable deposit in order to hold the date. The remainder of the balance is due no later than 1 month prior to the wedding. If you are working with a shortened time frame (less than one month before the wedding), full payment is due upon booking.
-
The exact timeline will vary, but typically it takes 4 to 6 weeks for me to edit your images and provide you with them. This timeframe allows me to dedicate the time your photos deserve to create a gallery of truly lasting memories. Once complete, you'll be sent a link to your online gallery.

Yes, I am fully insured with both professional indemnity and public liability insurance. I can provide a certificate of insurance if required.

Yes, I do offer engagement photos. Engagement sessions are a lovely way to celebrate this next chapter of your life story. I keep the atmosphere easygoing so the focus stays on your connection, capturing authentic, candid moments instead of posed portraits.

Many couples share that they value the sense of calm I bring to the day. As a New York wedding photographer, I combine an eye for storytelling with an editorial touch, creating images that are genuine, natural, and uniquely yours.

During an NYC City Hall wedding, photography is welcomed, but the City Clerk asks that photographers remain respectful. Photos are not allowed at the security checkpoint, and staff may remind us to keep walkways clear. I focus on candid, documentary-style images during your city hall wedding ceremony so the experience stays authentic.
-
No, a permit is not required for handheld photography after a New York City Hall wedding. We can capture portraits on the courthouse steps or in City Hall Park without issue. A permit would only be needed if you plan to bring large equipment or block space. Since guest attendance is capped at four adults plus you and your partner, the flow outside is simple and relaxed.
-
Weather often becomes part of the story. Rain or snow can add atmosphere, and we can always step under covered spots if needed. The good news is that because your ceremony is appointment-based, we’ll know exactly when you’ll be inside, and we can plan portraits around the weather with flexibility.
-
Absolutely. After your visit to the NYC Marriage Bureau (or the other City Clerk offices) to secure your marriage license and complete your ceremony, we can walk to several nearby spots. I'm happy to discuss some options with you during our call.

The city hall wedding cost in New York is pretty straightforward. A marriage license is $35, and the ceremony itself adds $25. However, I suggest confirming this information and making sure you have all the necessary documentation.
