NYC Documentary Wedding Photographer

Real Moments, Not Poses

Your wedding day doesn’t need direction — it just needs someone who sees it. I capture every meaningful moment as it naturally unfolds, without staged scenes or endless posing. If you're looking for honest, heartfelt wedding photography in New York City, you’re in the right place.

Quietly capturing the genuine emotional moments of your wedding day is the true purpose of documentary wedding photography.

What is Documentary Wedding Photography, Anyway?

Documentary wedding photography is about preserving your day exactly as it happened — nothing posed, nothing retouched, nothing fabricated. It’s the laugh between vows, the squeeze of a parent’s hand, the kids on the dance floor — all caught without direction. This style is ideal for couples who want real memories, not stylized performances.

I approach every wedding as a unique, once in a lifetime event, because although every wedding follows a similar outline, no two weddings are exactly alike. That’s what a “candid wedding style” and “wedding photojournalism” - catch phrases that get tossed around a lot these days, are really all about.

The best moments in life are never posed, and neither are the best photos.

No one should spend their wedding day stressed about posing for photos. This is your day - enjoy it!

Documentary Wedding Photography Tells the Full Story of the Wedding Day

So many moving parts make up the celebration of a wedding day; Getting ready, guests arriving, the ceremony, the post-ceremony hugs and tears, the reception… A wedding is more than just two people saying “I do.” It’s the energy in the room, the loved ones witnessing your joy, and the tiny in-between moments you may not notice as they’re happening. I photograph everything that makes your story yours — from quiet anticipation to joyful chaos. As your documentary wedding photographer, I always strive to present the full story of the day. Just as the bride and groom can’t be everywhere all at once, they won’t (shouldn’t?) be in every photo. Some of my favorite photos from weddings are of the guests - the “supporting cast”, if you will. Below are just a few of those, and if you’d like to see even more of my storytelling, check out my wedding portfolio.

The MOST frequent wedding FAQs

How much does documentary wedding photography cost?

How much time do you have? Wedding photography ranges in price from several hundred dollars for a one hour booking to upwards of 10K, so the better question to start with is, what type of photos do you want? For more on this, check out my “What’s it cost” page. If you love documentary wedding photography and are happy with what you see on my website, why not contact me? I’d love to hear about your plans and be there to capture genuine, candid images you’ll cherish for years to come!

When is the best time to get married in NYC?

The real answer to that question is: Whenever you want! As a result of ongoing concerns about Covid, a lot of couples are planning smaller outdoor events, in which case Spring and Fall are definitely the most ideal as far as temperature and overall weather is concerned. But if you love summer or winter, go for it! NYC has many, many gorgeous locations to suit all seasons, so whatever you’re looking for, you can find it here.

As a transplanted New Yorker, I’m always happy to give suggestions and help with location logistics. Feel free to contact me with any questions you have!

How do I know you’re the right photographer for our wedding?

To find the right photographer for your wedding, there are two main areas you should focus on apart from budget: they are the style of photography and the personality of the photographer. You want to find the person whose photos speak to you, and with whom you feel completely comfortable.
