Why Choose Amy Milstein Photography
I believe documentary wedding photography is most powerful when it captures real emotion without interruption or unnecessary direction. My approach is built on careful observation, genuine connection, and an appreciation for the authentic moments that naturally unfold throughout the day. Rather than creating scenes, I focus on preserving the laughter, heartfelt conversations, emotional embraces, and quiet expressions that define your celebration. These honest moments become timeless photographs that reflect your personalities, your relationships, and your love story. By photographing only a select number of weddings each year, I am able to give every couple the time, attention, and artistic dedication their memories deserve.

Documentary wedding photography is about capturing real life, not creating staged moments. I’m a quiet observer and photographer of real emotion as it naturally unfolds on your wedding day, without the unnecessary direction, letting your story develop. Your wedding photos are a true reflection of every meaningful moment you shared, against the backdrop of Seattle’s iconic skyline, waterfront scenery and beautiful landscapes.

A documentary style means you can be totally in the moment with your family and friends while your memories are captured organically. Rather than spending the day taking posed pictures, I capture real laughter, true hugs, small expressions and spontaneous celebrations which are often the photos couples treasure the most. Your gallery tells the entire story of your wedding with honesty, feeling and permanence.

Yes. Family portraits are still a big part of every wedding day and I make sure these get done efficiently. It takes us fifteen or twenty minutes to take pictures of the critical family groupings and then we return to the celebration. This well-rounded approach means you get classic family portraits as well as a documentary collection of authentic moments.

I think your wedding photographs should be of what you actually experienced on the day and not what was put together for the camera. I don’t try to control each conversation, but I let real moments happen naturally, and I pay attention to the feelings that arise in your vicinity. I am calm and unobtrusive, allowing you to enjoy all the fun of your celebration while I capture the real smiles, tears, conversations and connections that make your wedding special and unique to you.

Yes. I’m there to capture every important moment of your wedding day, from the anticipation before your first look, to the vows, the heartfelt speeches and all the significant moments in between. I want to make a full visual story, I want to keep every important memory from beginning to end.

Yes. I have a home studio in New York City but travel often for weddings and love to shoot celebrations wherever love stories take me. I've photographed weddings all over the country, bringing the same documentary style, artistic vision, and personal dedication to each event. If you are planning a destination wedding outside of the United States, I am available to travel internationally and preserve your memories with the same caring attention to detail.

The first step is for you to send me your Seattle wedding date and venue information so I can confirm my availability. Once your date is booked we will schedule a consultation to discuss your plans, photography preferences and any important details of your celebration. Meetings can be held over the phone, by video conference or in person. A $200 nonrefundable deposit is required to reserve your wedding date, with the remainder due no later than one month before the wedding day. If you book a wedding within thirty days full payment is required to hold the date.

The vast majority of couples receive their completed wedding gallery in four to six weeks. This timeline allows me to go through each and every image carefully, choose the best pictures and professionally edit them to retain the emotion, atmosphere and beauty of your wedding day. Once all is said and done, your photos will be delivered in a private online gallery for you to view, download and share your memories at your leisure.

Of course. I have professional indemnity insurance and public liability insurance to protect my couples, their venues and my business. I can provide the necessary insurance documents immediately should your venue require proof of coverage. Fully insured vendors provide couples with even more peace of mind when planning and on the day of their wedding.

Every wedding has its own personality and I want to preserve that personality through authentic visual storytelling. I don’t want to be choreographing every second, I want to be capturing the real laughter, the warm hugs, the hushed conversations and the emotional moments that make up your celebration. The finished gallery is an honest representation of your relationship and the people that made your wedding day so special.
