Newborn Photography in the Upper West Side
Freezing the tender, real-life moments of your baby.
Newborn photography in the Upper West Side is focused on capturing the quiet, intimate beauty of those first days with your child. It could be the way their tiny fingers wrap gently around yours or the soft expressions of calm and wonder as they sleep. These natural and unposed details tell the story of your growing family with authenticity and emotional depth.
I prioritize real, candid moments, photographing your baby as they are, nestled in your arms or within the cozy environment of your Upper West Side home. These images become enduring treasures, keeping the delicate, fleeting essence of those first days alive for you to look back on for years to come.
My Approach
to Documentary-Style
Newborn Photography
Documentary newborn photography is designed to capture your family’s story in the way it naturally unfolds, preserving every genuine moment. Years behind the camera have taught me to notice the subtle, fleeting details; the way your baby shifts and stretches in sleep, the delicate expressions that appear spontaneously, and the tender moments shared with parents. I approach each session quietly and thoughtfully, creating a peaceful space while recording what is already happening naturally.
I aim for your photographs to reflect the calm, intimate experience of these first days. Many parents express that the sessions provide a rare opportunity to slow down, focus on their newborn, and fully absorb the quiet and special nature of early parenthood.
Limiting the number of families I photograph each year ensures that each session receives the attention it truly deserves. This careful approach allows me to capture every meaningful moment and create images that are lasting, authentic, and deeply personal.

As a newborn photographer specializing in documentary style, I dedicate my sessions to preserving life as it genuinely happens. The early days of your baby are full of delicate, tender moments that unfold naturally without any need for staging. My job is to observe closely, capture the subtle and fleeting details, and create photographs that remain faithful to the authenticity and emotion of these first experiences.
-
Yes. My main emphasis is on natural, unscripted moments that document the tenderness and intimacy of your newborn’s early days. At the same time, I make a point to take some posed family portraits so you have classic keepsakes of the entire family together. These posed photos are usually completed in five to ten minutes to keep the session gentle and stress-free.
-
You are not expected to pose or act in any particular way during a newborn photography session. My role is to capture the authentic and quiet moments that happen naturally between you and your child. I might suggest minor adjustments, such as a position that makes the most of available light, but otherwise the session is dictated by your family’s natural movements and rhythm. The goal is to create an environment where you feel at ease, connected, and completely absorbed in these special early moments.
-
Yes. Although I am based in New York City, I am happy to travel anywhere across New York or throughout the United States to photograph newborns. I strive to create a session in a location that is most comfortable and convenient for your family, whether that is in your home or another setting of your choice.
-
To schedule your session, the best approach is to reach out with your preferred date and location so I can check availability. Following that, we can connect to go over the specifics of the session, whether via phone call, video meeting, or face-to-face discussion. A $200 non-refundable deposit is required to reserve your chosen date. The remaining payment is due one month prior to the session. If you are booking within a month of the scheduled date, full payment will need to be made at the time of booking.
-
Typically, it takes four to six weeks to receive your edited images. This timeline ensures careful attention to every photograph, producing a gallery that captures the beauty, intimacy, and fleeting moments of your newborn’s earliest days. A link to your online gallery will be sent once editing is complete.

The first two weeks after birth are ideal for newborn photography, as babies are usually the most sleepy and pliable during this period. Booking early helps secure your session around your due date.
-
Newborn sessions normally last two to four hours to allow time for feeding, comforting, and capturing both quiet and lively moments without feeling hurried.
-
I conduct sessions in your home so your baby feels secure and relaxed. This approach produces natural, candid images that reflect your family’s everyday life.
-
Simple clothing such as swaddles or neutral onesies works best, but ultimately the choice is yours to create a natural, comfortable look.
-
Absolutely. Including siblings and parents enriches the images, showcasing real connections and love among the family.
-
It is entirely normal for newborns to be unsettled. I work at your baby’s pace, capturing real moments whether awake, soothed, or asleep. Many of these candid shots become favorites in the final gallery.
