My Approach to Natural Wedding Photography in NYC

Documentary wedding photography is an art. With decades of experience, I understand the subtleties of capturing your wedding as it truly happens—unscripted, joyful, and full of real connection. I approach every celebration with a steady, calming presence, observing and photographing the laughter, tears, and everything in between without directing or staging.

Your wedding photographs should feel like your day: genuine, unposed, and entirely yours. Couples often tell me my presence feels reassuring, allowing them to stay grounded and enjoy each moment. I adapt easily to the rhythm of the day (whether lively and playful or quiet and intimate) so you can remain fully present while I quietly document it all. By taking on only 12 to 15 weddings each year, I give your day the focus and care
it deserves.

Some Styles of Weddings I Photograph

Whichever type of wedding you’re planning, I’ll photograph it. I love documenting weddings of every style, and each celebration brings its own story. Below are just a few examples of the many weddings I’ve photographed.

City Hall & Elopement Weddings

Spontaneous, stylish, and stress-free weddings captured with authenticity and care. From quick courthouse vows to intimate city strolls, I document the joy and energy of your day in a natural, candid way.

Beach Weddings

A calm approach that lets the shoreline set the scene. I focus on the genuine moments unfolding throughout your special day—the light shifting over the water, laughter carried on the wind, and the connection between you and your loved ones with the ocean as the backdrop.

LGBTQ+ Weddings

An inclusive and affirming approach to celebrating all love stories with heart and honesty. I create a space where you feel seen, supported, and free to express your love exactly as it is.

Jewish Wedding Photography

Jewish Wedding Photography

Sensitive to the cultural nuances and rituals that make each celebration meaningful. From the ketubah signing to the hora, I honor every tradition while capturing the emotion and connection at the heart of it all.

“Magical and Timeless”

Amy was an absolute dream to work with! When it came to our wedding, we knew we wanted a Documentary/ Candid forward style but we did still need a few of the more posed photos for family and friends. Amy did not hesitate to provide, even going so far as to include film photography in her services…

Documentary Wedding Photographer in NYC

  • A true documentary wedding photographer strives to be in the moment at all times, rather than directing the action to “create” a moment. Your wedding photographs should reflect your day exactly as it was lived—unscripted, joyful, and full of real connection. As your NY wedding photographer, I approach every celebration with a steady, supportive presence, observing and capturing genuine moments as they unfold.

  • Every couple is different, but often the photos couples wind up coming back to again and again aren’t the posed, formal shots, but the candid moments they didn’t even know were being captured. This is the heart of documentary wedding photography: to tell the true, unscripted story of your wedding day. As a couple, you are unique; your wedding won’t be like anyone else’s. Documentary wedding photography means your photos will reflect your unique personality and style, with images you’ll treasure forever.

  • Yes. While documentary wedding photography is my speciality, I will of course take some group shots, typically spending no more than 15-20 minutes on them.

  • Your wedding day doesn’t need direction; it only needs someone who sees it. My role is to capture the unscripted moments as they are happening rather than imposing any ideas. As a result, I don’t give any direction. I document your wedding as it truly happens. You shouldn’t feel that your wedding is a performance. My wish is that you spend as little time thinking about photos as possible, and all of your time simply enjoying the day together.

  • Yes. As a documentary-style wedding photographer, I capture all the candid, fleeting moments of your day from start to finish.

  • Absolutely. Even though I'm based in New York as a New York wedding photographer, I’ll travel anywhere in the United States, and can shoot destination weddings outside the country as well.

  • The best way is to contact me with your wedding date and location so that I can check my availability. After that, we can meet either via phone, video chat, or in person to discuss details and get to know one another. I require a $200 non-refundable deposit in order to hold the date. The remainder of the balance is due no later than 1 month prior to the wedding. If you are working with a shortened time frame, meaning less than one month before the wedding, full payment is due upon booking.

  • This varies somewhat, but it generally takes 4 to 6 weeks for me to thoroughly edit your images. This ensures that I can dedicate the time your photos deserve to create a gallery of lasting memories you’ll cherish. Once complete, you’ll be given the link to an online gallery that contains all of the edited images.

  • Yes, I am fully insured with both professional indemnity and public liability insurance. I can provide a certificate of insurance to the venue owners/managers if required. I’d also encourage you to confirm that every vendor you hire is fully insured.

  • Yes. In addition to weddings, I offer engagement sessions that feel relaxed and natural. As your engagement photographer, I focus on genuine interaction rather than staged poses, creating images that reflect your real connection.

  • Couples often tell me it’s my calming presence. As a New York wedding photographer, I blend storytelling with an editorial style, capturing real moments that feel both natural and unique to your special day.

  • Of course. I include the bridal party naturally throughout the day, documenting candid interactions without imposing my (or anyone else’s) preconceived notions of what your photos should look like.
